This week after the news we chat about stock. Stock images, stock music, stock video, after effects templates and more. We focus in on a couple of stock provides that we’ve used in the past in VideoBlocks and Digital Juice. We discuss the pros and cons of each service and offer a few other alternatives for those looking for stock media.

NEWS

GoPro Karma drone delayed until 2016 holiday season

  • Drink
  • Looking to “give ourselves more time to fine-tune these features”
  • Main competitor has had a good start to the year with their Phantom 4
  • Need to do something pretty amazing since everyone is making a drone and it’s getting harder to actually fly the things due to new laws being introduced.

Canon Announces A New Top Of The Line Speedlight and EOS-M Macro Lens

  • Very soon to replace the old model
  • Boost in recycle times up to 2x faster than its predecessor if using the new CP-E4N Compact Battery Pack. 1.1 – 1.5x faster on AA.
  • Seems very similar in all other respects.
  • Not any smaller or lighter (sorry Chris)
  • Will be interesting if it breaks compatibility with 3rd party flash wireless triggering.
  • EF-M 28MM F/3.5 MACRO IS STM. Wide macro that would be roughly a 45mm equivalent.
  • Stabilisation – Important for handheld macro!
  • Built in diffused LED ring light which is a nice addition

Adobe reduces Creative Cloud Trial to 7 days

  • Trials were 30 days, now 7 worldwide
  • It’s questionable if 7 days is long enough to truly trial a product.
  • There is now less flexibility if you have subscription problems (which is not uncommon).

Amazon Targets YouTube With New Online Video Posting Service

  • Good to have a competitor to youtube that pays (unlike Vimeo)
  • Already has a great cloud backbone in place (S3).
  • Designed for professionals, however the only requirements are HD and Closed captioning (the later perhaps will be the biggest hindrance for people)
  • Sign up process involves a lot of business/tax questions.
  • This is definitely NOT aimed at the causal youtube uploader crowd.

LG introduces live-streaming “ACTIVE LIFESTYLE CAMERA” cam with LTE built-in

  • Built in 3G and LTE – could be a bit pricey on data plans!
  • Deep rectangle form factor – more likely to catch on things compared with a Go Pro
  • UHD quality at 30fps and of shooting 12.3MP photos
  • 120fps in HD
  • Waterproof for half an hour at 1m depth (but will it transmit?!)
  • Shipping first in South Korea before rollout elsewhere
  • Has built in Wifi – could be used as a security/timelapse camera. Wifi probably makes more sense than 3G/LTE

YouTube Red Is Now Available In Australia (and New Zealand)

  • First country outside the US to have the service
  • $12 per month ($10 if you sign up before 6th of June)
  • Gives you ad-free youtube and offline functionality
  • Youtube Music (Radio of music videos)
  • Get access to Google’s Play music service (more akin to Spotify)
  • Original content available to subscribers (but not a lot at this stage)
